Jørgen Meinich

Jørgen Meinich (1820 – 1911) was a Norwegian industrialist. He was born in Søndre Land. He was a pioneer in the development of the Norwegian wood processing industry and the use of hydropower in the industry. He was the first chairman of Ekers og Giethuus Papirfabriker (established in 1873, later renamed Drammenselvens Papirfabrikker), and chaired the association Akerselvens Brugseierforening during its first 25 years. He was a joint owner of the companies Bentse Brug and Nydalens Compagnie.

He was Mayor of the municipality of Aker from 1875 to 1877, and later a member of the City Council of Kristiania. He was decorated Commander of the Order of St. Olav in 1897. He was a Commander of the Danish Order of Dannebrog, and Knight of the Swedish Order of the Polar Star.[1][2]
